Our favorite stories: Meeting the resident artist of Linton, Phil Caudill
(Local News ~ 12/29/20)
Back in September, a Linton resident, Phil Caudill, called the Greene County Daily World with a story. He said he’d painted his garage door and thought it might be interesting for our readers to see. Intrigued, we scheduled a time to meet. At this point, I’d already met with Caudill once when he built 15-foot chimes that now hang in his backyard. ...

Our favorite stories: The first baby of 2020; being a first-time mother
(Local News ~ 12/29/20)
Born on Jan. 4, 2020, to Mackenzie and Jordan Dunn of Linton, the GCDW reported Waylon Dunn as the Greene County General Hospital’s first baby of the year. Just looking at the baby’s sweet little face, juxtaposed with the terror-infused excitement on his parents’ faces brought me back to my own experience as a first-time mother. ...

Our favorite stories: A morning walking in the flower fields
(Local News ~ 12/29/20)
In early September, I got the pleasure of doing something I’ve always wanted to do - visit a flower field. I am a bit of a plant hoarder. If there’s one thing I have too many of, it’s plants, both fake and real. If I’m walking through Target and I see a plant, there’s a good chance I’m going to buy it. For this reason, being surrounded by beautiful flowers on every side was a complete dream for me when I visited Edwards Farmstead in Solsberry for their first open farm day and U-pick...

(Local News ~ 12/29/20)
Floyd “Dean” Chambers was one of my favorite people to interview in 2020, so naturally, “Floyd Chambers maintains 30-acre farm” was one of my favorite stories to write. He’s a very interesting person--he seems to have many layers and an almost superhuman energy and enthusiasm, especially for a man in his 90’s. ...
